Why has my PS3 stopped playing discs?

I was playing my PS3 earlier and the game froze and would not un freeze the PS3 was extremely unresponsive but I managed to get the disc out. The PS3 will now accept discs but will not read or play any, not games or DVDs or anything am I going to have to send it away for repair?

not sure mate happened to me just before im wanting to know the answer to this and all
It can happen for a few reasons eg. the Ps3 disk reader broke a wire that was faulty the disk readers lens that broke or is really dirty the best is to send it in for repairs and if its still under warranty then take it back to the place u bought it from..
happens sometimes to my ps3.
the laser is dirty (dust).
go to radioshack and buy a dvd cleaner.
its worked everytime so far.
some people throw away their playstations and I can often fix it just by cleaning the laser.
thats what happend to me

i got it back in a week!
Yep, the same thing just happened to me. Call Sony and they will send you a prepaid shipping box and you’ll have to send your unit in to get fixed, assuming it is under warranty still.
