ITs coz ur PS3 is getting overheated. make sure its not in a cabinet or anything and it needs to be VERY well ventilated. everything should be at least 24 cm away from it. it should not be placed on a carpet and vacuum the vents on the top and side every week. dust shouldnt accumulate or ur PS3 will get the YLOD (yellow light of death/doom)
If it still continues call Sony and they should help u
Good luck
Its trying to cool itself down. You probably have your PS3 in some sort of confined space where there isn’t a lot of space for the vents. Keep your PS3 in open space. Surrounding air needs to be sucked in and there must be enough space to blow out the hot air where it won’t bounce off walls and back to the PS3.
The PS3 cools better if laid flat, instead of standing up. Try that and make sure you have the back clear of anything that will stop the flow of hot air from leaving the system. Also, keep it on a hard, flat surface (not carpet or anything like that). Make sure you don’t have anything else that produces alot of heat right next to it, like a dvr or stereo receiver.
When you hear the fan in fast mode, shut the ps3 down right away and leave it off.
Spring has sprung and the weather is getting hot. You need to not only keep enough cooling space around your ps3, you need to keep the ambient temperature at standard room temperature. That is, 72 degrees fahrenheit or below. That is room temperature, decided long ago by somebody, the god of rooms maybe.
If you run your ps3 when it is 85 degrees around it, you’re torturing it. Whether it has cooling space or not. When the ps3’s fan gets loud and spins fast, it is complaining at you. The ps3 has one of the hugest fans of any home computer, bigger than most pc’s have. The ps3 generates an enormous amount of heat with its mighty Cell processor and if it gets too hot the Cell will cook itself. The fan in that loud state is doing everything it can to keep the ps3 alive. If its internal temperature sensors catch it in time, it will shut down before the electronics are damaged, but it doesn’t always work.
To keep your ps3 alive, keep it cool and keep it free of dust.
