How to Fix PS3 Yellow light of Death? YLOD or Red Light After Warranty – Learn to Fix Your PS3
Without doubt the PS3 has revolutionized the gaming industry and has quickly become one of the most successful gaming systems to hit the shelves.
However when your warranty gets over, you most likely encounter yellow light of death and when you call Sony, they simply say you have to pay $180 and wait for 4-6 weeks to get your PS3 fixed.
The Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) can be one of the most annoying encounters on a PS3. That PS3 that you spent hundreds of dollars on is now defective. • Turn off your PS3 for at least 20 minutes (to allow it to cool down), then turn it on again
• Check for any loose cables

The “yellow light of death” (YLOD) results more frequently from bad solder joints on the motherboard. So far, the leading theory in the cause the YLOD is that over time, the processor gets so hot that it causes the solder to loosen. This explains why the YLOD is most commonly seen on the 20GB and 60GB models which use older processing technology, thus causing more heat and inefficiency. So far on this subject, Sony has refused to reveal any information regarding the causes of or solutions to the yellow light of death.
