How Do I rescue my Ps3 save games and purchased content from the hard drive?
My Old 60gig PS3 just YLOD’d on me a week before GOW3 release. DAMM ITT!!!
Anyway, I wanna get a new slim ps3 instead of repairing it and I was wondering how I can transfer my stuff (save games and DLC) from the dead Ps3’s hard drive to the new one.
Does the slim use the same type of HDD as the old one? Then I cud just swap the 120gb with the old 60gb. Sounds stupid but if you guys have any suggestions please HELP!!!
Thanx!

You can’t recover data from a console that gets the unfortunate Yellow Light. Yes, both use the same hard drive, but the PS3 uses the same high encryption security on the hard drive and only allows a hard drive to be tied to one PS3 at a time, so putting the 60 GB hard drive in the Slim will require a format of the disk. This deletes the data and makes the swap completely pointless. You could try putting the 60 GB hard drive in an appropriate USB hard drive enclosure to transfer the data to a PC and go from there, but I’m told that this does not work (the PC won’t recognize it). Any other situation requires turning on the console.
So, basically, you need to get your 60 GB fixed if you want that data back. The only stuff you can get back at this point is things linked to your PSN ID. Anything you bought from the PSN Store can be redownloaded for free. Any trophies you have synced with the server will show up when you log in on the Slim. Online game stats still remain the same as does your Buddy List.
i dont think swapping hard drives would work as when i put a new hard drive in my ps3 i had to reformat it.
i cant really see anyway of getting your game saves off it
but all the games you have bought from the psn store you can just re download it from your download history tab on the psn store page
