HELP! PS3 QUESTIONS ON HARD DRIVE AND other things?
Hello thanks for coming to answer my question. My questions are:
1. Do you need a hard drive to play your playstation 3?
2. Do you need the caddy thing? if so where can you buy one?
3. If i have a 60 gb console, and i upgrade it to a higher gb, will it still be the most backwards campatible? They say the 60 gb console is the most backwards compatible with ps1 and 2 games.
4. If i send in my ps3 for repairs will i need to send it in with the harddrive?
All answers are very appreciated THANKS!!!!

1.) Yes you do.
).
2.) I guess you could technically attach an HDD to a PS3 without use of a caddy, but the caddy is designed to hold the HDD in place and keep it stable. If you don’t have the caddy to screw the drive to, you run the risk of seriously damaging either the PS3, the drive, or both. If you’ve bought a PS3 without a caddy, i’d be suspicious of any other missing parts. I guess you could try ebay or call sony directly to try and locate one if this is the case.
3.) Yes. The backwards compatibility is written into the BIOS on the motherboard; not the harddrive. Either the 20g or 60g will stay BC after boosting your storage (I have a 20g with a 320g HDD in it now- amazing machine
4.)Yes, you’ll need to send the HDD along with the machine. Again, if you’ve bought one without an HDD, you’ll want to go out and buy a cheap used 2.5" drive to slap in, because they’ll probably swap out your system and send you back a refurbed 60g console with a fresh drive, and wind up keeping your ugraded drive. Seriously, a used 50g or lower laptop drive won’t run you too much.
1. All PS3 have a built in hard drive 20gb-80gb!2. I don’t know what the caddy thing is(sorry!)…3.Yes the 60gb has a built in EMOTION engine to play all PS1-PS2 games!!!4.Yes since it’s built in and probably wont work without one( I think I never tried it)……..GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
1. yes.
2. not sure what you mean, but the hard drive comes already installed. It’s installed like a laptop one is, i.e. undo a few screws and you can swap it out and put a new one in.
3. yes (though they’re very hard to find). Swapping out the Hard drive doesn’t affect the PS2 compatibility (incidently, all the models play PS1 games fine)
4. No, I think Sony even ask you to remove it if possible.
